Auckland Light

Photographs by Richard Douglas 31 August - 12 October 2023

Richard Douglas
Auckland Light
is a selection of photographs taken in Auckland over the last two years. The light over our beautiful city changes constantly, greatly altering the appearance of even the most familiar landscapes. These photographs are of moments when the light is changing. Their taking has been a great joy for Richard and he hopes that the prints in this exhibition may provide enduring pleasure.

Richard graduated from the School of Medicine of the University of Auckland in 1985. Like all the undergraduates of that era, he was charged no tuition fees and lived in a city that was relatively inexpensive. Proceeds from the sale of these photographs will help students who, facing the very different economic conditions of today, can find themselves in financial difficulties.

Richard would like to thank Aston Song of Progear for his superb printing of these images and Sally Souness of Parnell Gallery for her expert framing.

The Kate Snow Student Hardship Fund
Kate Snow was the Dean of Nursing at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Science of the University of Auckland. She retired in 2018 after 18 years of remarkable service to nursing education. Upon her retirement, a fund was established in her honour - the Kate Snow Student Hardship Fund.

All the proceeds of sales from this exhibition will be donated to this fund.

This fund supports undergraduate students of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Science, from across all the Schools of the Faculty (Medicine, Nursing, Population Health, Optometry and Pharmacy), who experience unexpected financial hardship. Its purpose is to ensure that talented students with limited financial support are not prevented from becoming our health leaders of tomorrow.
